A New London

The Compton is a new development in St John's Wood, London. This project was completed in 2019, and has quickly become one of the capitals landmark builds. And if the bricks have caught your eye, get in touch, because they are from our UK exclusive Linear collection.

This project is all about exquisite design, and extraordinary finishes. The location isn’t bad either. Find the gem just a two minute walk from Regents Park, and a stone's throw from Lord’s cricket ground. This is city living, at it’s finest.

Architectural Genius

The build has brought together some of the UK’s best architects and interior designers, and the resulting development consists of 49 stunning apartments. Let’s start with the design. Note the series of curved bays that run vertically up the building; the intricate leaf motif embossed panels are an Art Deco-style nod to the neighbouring Regents Park.

Natural light is key to the design too, with large feature windows framing the outside views of the capital, and some of the bays lead onto indulgent private balconies. Ascend to the top of the building, and enjoy a resident-only communal roof garden, and 360° city sights.

Interior Design

Naturally, the interior is equally impressive. Kelly Hoppen headed up the Interior Design team, and the exquisite specification throughout has made for some seriously indulgent contemporary living. The residents’ lobby and concierge area is consistent in design spec, and continues the theme of effortless sophistication. Clean lines and opulent textures are everywhere. Take note of the neutral tones, and subtle play of contrasting textures too. Spaces are beautifully furnished, with handcrafted furniture and bespoke home accessories.

The Brickwork

Here is where you’ll see our clay transcend functionality. Our waterstruck bricks have been bonded into an impressive feature entrance, where residents and visitors are welcomed by a stoic masonry, and a generous canopy. The ground floor is clad in our long format, elongated bricks. The striking facade serves as a strong statement, and beautiful base for the detailed building is supports. With this build, detail is key, and the unique surface texture of our waterstruck Linear bricks enhances, defines and compliments the other materials beautifully.

The Finest Materials

Perhaps the biggest triumph is the buildings play on materials. This is one of the of world’s first cast aluminium clad-buildings, and the developer, Regal London, has achieved something truly global in design. The quality of glass, aluminium and clay are unparalleled, and the materials work together to achieve a truly unique finish.

Simon Bowden, Founder and Director of Simon Bowden Architecture, describes how, ‘The architectural ambitions for The Compton were quite unprecedented, and it was evident from the outset that the process would require acute attention to detail. Cast aluminium is not a material that is often used for residential schemes and required a great investment of time in preparation and development...With such emphasis on the aesthetics – as well as the function – of the aluminium structure, we developed over 1,000 designs for the bay patterns, of which 100 were shortlisted for 3D printing, to allow us to select the exact level of texture and outline that would capture the right amount of light. 20 different panels then had to be perfected and manufactured before piecing them together on site.’

Time, patience and precision were needed to achieve the quality throughout. This level of finish is by no means easy to achieve, but the collaboration was an absolute success.

2020 London Living

Simon De Friend, Joint CEO of Regal London, notes that ‘The Compton was designed as an architectural pioneer for London’s residential landscape, and we were delighted to work with Simon Bowden Architecture and a host of industry experts to bring our shared vision to life.’’

“This new building is a striking architectural landmark that enhances the development’s surroundings and demonstrates the ethos and design for which Regal London is renowned."
