Wet clay is pressed into individual moulds moistened with water so the clay releases cleanly. Excess clay is struck off the top, then the bricks are dried and fired. The water release leaves a smooth, natural texture that is difficult to achieve by other methods, and each brick carries its own “water imprint”. Compared with wirecut bricks, the look is less uniform; compared with sandstruck bricks, the face is cleaner and less grainy. Many waterstruck bricks are made without holes or frogs for a solid brick.
